"Aviary Reverie" was written as I left a 10 hour recording session. I'd been recording piano unsuccessfully. Made it out the the door and into my car hearing the tune in my head before I decided to turn around and try to record it. I was hoping to capture a sort of 40's 50's ballad recording quality and overall feeling of the song. For the vocal version, I asked an old friend of mine to sing / write lyrics. Over the course of three months we recorded a new version and vocals for the song.
lyrics
The last day I loved you
I sat in the river
And I let my long legs cry
And the last day I loved you
The wind was a bible
Said the cruel things in your heart will never die
Though the embryo will never grow
It’s still, so real, somewhere
Where the snakes all befriend you
And falcons aren’t foes
We’re the captains of midnight, confetti cake bros
And they understand you jibberish
And they love your coy little cues
